Local Artist Installs Newest Public Art on the Swamp Rabbit Trail

Kathleen King, the artist responsible for the wall art, murals, and various other pieces around our vacation rentals has just installed her newest rendition on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Kathleen was brought to Greenville by the County Parks & Rec department as the Coordinator of the Swamp Rabbit Trail Public Art Collection. Following her notoriety for "The Tortoise has a Spare", the painting on the side of the TTR bike shop next to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe, Kathleen was prepared to create a second piece. The Greenville Track Club and Visit Greenville SC funded the second installment. Entitled, "The Runner", it's fond nickname has become "Ethyl" and it's constructed out of acrylic on plasma-cut steel. As a kinetic piece, each section spins independently.

Kathleen drew her inspiration from what it actually feels like to run- the 'freedom of movement through space'. The Greenville Track Club is placing their former president Darrell Jennewine's bronzed shoes under a bench near the sculpture and the piece will be dedicated to him this fall. You can find the sculpture near the train track crossing on the Swamp Rabbit Trail near Bramlett St.

Rent a Bike from the Bike Shed at Swamp Rabbit Inn

Greenville is a cycling town, there's no denying that. The integration of bike lanes into new road projects, pump tracks and new mountain bike trails being added to parks, and the ever-expanding Swamp Rabbit Trail has all lent a hand to the boom of bikes in this city.

The close proximity to the Swamp Rabbit Trail (SRT) from the Swamp Rabbit Inn has had many out-of-town guests clamoring for a bike to use while they're staying. Our solution? The Bike Shed at Swamp Rabbit Inn: a small spot behind the Inn full of vintage treasures, local tees by the folks at Greenville Goods, cold and hot beverages, and bike rentals for locals and guests alike. For $15 a half day or $25 for the whole day, this includes a lock and a helmet (safety is sexy y'all). Our Bike Shed Manager, Lisa, is happy to give you pointers on where to go, or buy a Cycling Greenville Guidebook for your return travels.

The Bike Shed is open seasonally on Friday-Monday 9am to 5pm and Tuesdays from 3-8:30 during Truck Inn Tuesdays. You can always call 864-517-4617 to rent a bike during off hours as well.

Unique vacation and staycation options at Swamp Rabbit Inn

It’s safe to say that Truck INN Tuesdays is now a summer staple at the Swamp Rabbit Inn in downtown Greenville. If you haven’t experienced one yet, you should for a few reasons. #1- Greenville is an amazing place with loads of fun activities and music, but they primarily cluster around the Friday, Saturday, Sunday portion of the week. Truck INN Tuesdays happen on, well, you’re smart folks. #2- the growth of Greenville is happening rapidly but the West End lacks an abundance of food options; not only do we offer Food Truck snacks and dinners, but many local food makers, and King of Pops make it an all encompassing epicourian experience. #3- The West End in general is on the cusp of revitalization and expansion. It’s a great part of town to walk or ride your bicycle to explore what this great southern city has to offer.

So come see us. Take a tour of the Swamp Rabbit Inn. Eat and drink with your friends while listening to local music. Buy and support local makers and crafters. It’s not a bad way to spend a Tuesday evening.

Pepper Palace Team Stay at the Swamp Rabbit Lodge

Downtown Greenville, SC was this year's sponsor city for the US Professional Cycling Criterium Championships on April 18th. Swamp Rabbit Inn hosts Pepper Palace Pro Cycling Team

The Swamp Rabbit Lodge proved to be an ideal location for the Pepper Palace Professional Women's Cycling Team: about as close to the Swamp Rabbit Trail to downtown Greenville as one can get, while providing the ladies peace and tranquility to focus on their race.

Pepper Palace Pro Cycling Team

A late arrival and rainy weather was not the best welcome but they all settled in nicely, using the covered porches to warm up on their bike trainers while the rain came down. When the weather was clear, the women explored Travelers Rest, including Tandem Creperie, the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and eventually into downtown Greenville's Coffee Underground. Rested, relaxed, and ready to race, the Peppers scored a second place!

We Had This Cute Family Stay at the Inn This Week

I met this family just an hour or so after they arrived at the inn.  Natasha, the mom, greeted me at the door and was worried because a milkshake had been spilled in the room and she took care of it and wanted me to know about it.  It was at that point that I realized that we really are a family friendly inn.  Everything wiped clean and had she not told me, we would have never known. That is why I chose IKEA for the inn.  I want families to feel at home and not worry about anything being ruined, and if it ever is ... no big deal.  Our guests are so gracious and fill our inn with their fun and stories and never for a minute do I worry about the furnishings.  They are durable, stylish and take whatever we happens to them.  I am so glad that we can have wonderful guests call us their home away from home.  It was an awesome week at the inn!  This family was traveling from Canada to the Southern United States to meet their online friends in real life (IRL) that they made through writing their blog. Meet Dave and Natasha and their lovely children who graced our inn this week...
